We spent two wonderful weeks at josh's home, casa di gaspero in calabria, the region from which my own ancestors hail.
Our family trip included our daughter, son-in-law, and our year-old grandson. We had a wonderful time in the gigantic villa, buying local produce each morning to cook each afternoon, taking hours-long walks around the region and exploring. The local restaurants, while limited in number, are endless in the variety of delicious meals and wonderful local wines they serve.
The villa itself is a marvel with countless rooms making it big enough for the largest family. The townspeople are incredibly friendly and we had several marvelous, memorable dinners at the homes of the locals including an unforgettable evening at the home of a local farmer's family with a seven-course dinner from the fresh food they grew themselves.
If you are looking to relax, see the real Calabria and live like the locals for a bit of time, this is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of place.

Just saw the website for casa di Gasperi and am impressed with the many and
very high level activities possible there. I visited Altomonto some years ago and know it is a most charming and really true Italian atmosphere, far
from the overexploited tourist area. Close to mountain where there is spring in June and private beeches for relaxing swimming - and a fantastic
spa/mudbath!! We wish Casa di Gasperi all the success - for them and the wonderful area!
My husband, sister, brother and sister-in-law spent one of the most memorable vacations of our lives at Casa di Gasperi. The villa is incomparable! Every one of the numerous rooms is a pleasant surprise, the décor eclectic and a visual delight. The villa is incomparable! It is rare to find exhilarating, yet comfortable, accommodations nestled in such a lovely little traditional Calabrian village. Josh Gasperi, the owner, is known and loved by everyone in the community and, as guests at Casa di Gasperi we were warmly accepted and treated with special care by the entire population of Altamonte. We will definitely visit again!
We were guests last summer for seven days at casa di Gasperi in Altomonte. Josh has created an extraordinary experience there. The casa is a work of art in the truest sense. The cool mountain air, medieval ambience of the streets, the abundant, rustic beauty of the land and the people made me want to stay forever. We felt completely at home with the friendly and generous people in Altomonte. Every meal was a celebration, every day was paradise, and exploring the stunning countryside was a daily adventure. It was an unforgettable vacation.

Casa di Gasperi is a magical house, wonderfully appointed, in an unspoiled part of Italy. Being in Altemonte allows one to experience the “real” taste and spirit of Italy in a luxurious setting. Altemonte is friendly and walkable and serves as a great home base when taking wonderful day trips to the surrounds. I highly recommend Casa di Gasperi as a wonderful house for vacation, a wedding, a family reunion or a much needed get-a-way from the normal tourist places people typically travel.

In the summer of 2005, I was fortunate enough to spend five days at the glorious Casa di Gasperi. I have been traveling abroad for almost fifty years now, and all I can say is that my five days at Casa di Gasepri and in Altamonte were among the most enjoyable days I have ever spent on holiday. If you are looking for great ambiance, great food and plenty of good wine, along with virtually no tourists -- you get to see Italy the way it really is, which is something you can't do in Rome, Venice or Florence -- then Altamonte is definitely the place for you! Casa di Gasperi is in a great location and is one of the most comfortable places I have ever stayed.
I have taken 2 separate trips to Casa Di Gasperi , one with my family, the other with college friends.
The house was unbelievable, an interesting old home that had been renovated to suit travelers in the 20th century, it was a fantastic experience. I have traveled quite extensively and this is one of my top destinations. From the artwork to the panoramic vistas from the roof-top deck to the old world character of the home.........all of these were unparalled in my experiences. The town of Altomonte was filled with antiquated charm, history, romance, great eateries and that famous Italian hospitality. A great place to lose your troubles for a few days and get re-acquainted with peace and your inner self. Altomonte is a true elixir for relieving modern stress. Don`t miss it!
Saving the best for last, Josh was a tremendous host, an 11 on a 10 point scale. His planning , execution, personal attention, creativity, hopitality, and graciousness were over the top. Never have I had an experience where the host, Josh, went to such trouble to make sure your stay exceeded your expectations. If Josh wanted to launch a new career , hosting and hospitality is a perfect fit ----a real natural. He could not have done a better job, no stone was left unturned. I can`t find the words to describe the experience that he created for his guests.
