     The Flexible Painter was designed to engage the beginner as well as the more experienced painter and yoga practitioner. If you creativity retreat is for you.

     Our time in Italy immerses us in the traditions and the spectacular landscapes of Altamonte. Experience daily yoga and art instruction in watercolor, drawing and collage. Classes take place in and around the elegant Casa Di Gasperi in this incomparable untouched region. Our insider’s view of this area includes a cooking class in the home of a local “Zia”. We will visit an agriturismo and a vineyard, observe traditional cheese making and have the rare opportunity to sample authentic Calabrian music and cuisine. The charm and hospitality of the local people of this medieval hill town are certain to add a magical and unforgettable touch to your stay.

     Leaders Joy Levine Abrams and Gay Schempp live and believe the practices of yoga and art are parallel meditations. These disciplines feed each other at a deep level of quiet attention to the challenge of authentic expressions. Participant brings a wide range of ages, experiences and abilities to the creative process of blending yoga poses, watercolor and collage.

     Joy Levine Abrams, M.S. has been a certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor since 1995. She teaches throughout Fairfield County, CT. She has co-led Art & Yoga Retreats in Connecticut and Italy for 9 years Joy has been teaching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction since Fall 2007. She is also certified as a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist.

     Her interest in the mind/body connection began with her M.S. in Biology in 1981. For 9 years, Joy served as Director of Hospice Volunteers, training over 200 volunteers. She considers the experience her mast powerful learning in living consciously.

     Gay Schempp, M.A. worked as a studio potter, producing functional and sculptural stoneware for 20 years. She has led Art and Mythology Tours to Japan and Greece as well as co-leading Art Education Association, Currently, she is teaching and oil paintings in her studio at Whiting Mills in Winsted, CT.

     Gay has been teaching art for over 40 years as an internationally known potter and a Nationally Certified Teacher at New Canaan High School. Students learn the skills of making art as well as the process of creating unique work.
